The "Studies" volumes are a series of compositions, scored to collections of field recordings. The recordings are taken by us—cataloguing sounds and experiences from tour. In May 2009, we toured 14 U.S. cities with advanced copies of Be One of Us and Hear No Noise and captured the recordings for this volume. Loosen the Bands was written in the months following and is the first piece in the "Studies" series.
The piece is divided into three breaths - part one titled, "HR1948-1949", part 2, "HR1903," and the final breath, "HR1851-1852."
Loosen the Bands is 17 minutes and 21 seconds long.

Pre-orders are available now via Friend of Mine Records for the Japanese extended edition of Be One of Us and Hear No Noise. The extended edition contains all ten original tracks plus three previously unreleased tracks—making up the album's alternate finale titled, Loosen the Bands.

We're going to be working on new material as a part of XRA's 2010 subscription service.

Laminar Excursion Monthly is a 3" subscription service starting January 2010 and made available through the collaboration of Crossroads of America Records and Flannelgraph Records. The intimacy of its sparsity and the intentionality of its medium promise to make this an even more fulfilling investment than a jelly-of-the-month club.
Subscribers will receive two new 3" cds at the beginning of every month in the year 2010. A unique box will be sent with the initial shipment. Even if the rest of your world falls apart, you can still count on having two new compact discs arriving to your mailbox each month for the entire year.
Each disc will hold 20 minutes of brand new, unreleased material from the artists. The joint effort is bringing together the rosters of both labels as well as such notable artists as Richard Swift, Damien Jurado, Cotton Jones, J. Tillman, Desolation Wilderness, Bexar Bexar, Danny Grody (of Tarentel and The Drift), Saxon Shore, and a host of others.
Laminar Excursion Monthly will be limited to 100 subscribers.
The yearly subscription fee is $45.00 until January 1st. If any subscriptions are still available at that point, the fee raises to $50.00.
Subscriptions will be available here at www.xrarecords.com beginning Monday, November 2nd.

I don't think we could be more excited about working with them and we're proud to have been added to their roster. Check 'em out and buy something awesome. Like, say, the vinyl reissue of Starflyer 59's Silver.

We're thrilled to have been invited to be a part of Justin Ouellette and Luke Crawford's re-launch of Muxtape. It's a new website that allows bands to create mini profiles and "mixtapes" of their own music. The site has so much potential and there are many more features yet to be revealed as it exits its "beta" period. We're excited to have been among the first bands to be a part of Muxtape. Check it out and keep an eye on what these guys are unpacking!
